Turn the town red

The Redcliffe Dolphins are the Intrust Super Cup kings after an enthralling Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium on September 23rd 2018. Peninsula Life congratulate the boys and the club on the win and for turning the town red!

Final score: 36-22

The Dolphins finished as Minor Premiers after the completion of the home and away rounds, an achievement they last reached in 2016 only to fall to Burleigh on Grand Final day that year.

But there would be no such disappointment this year as the peninsula boys dominating in the decider against traditional foes the East’s Tigers.

It had been a long 12 year drought since the Dolphins last took out the title of State Champions under the guidance of Anthony Griffin in 2006 against Toowoomba. The weight of that twelve year burden didn’t seem to take any toll on the Phins as they started the game aggressively and determined.

The Dolphins forwards dominated the Tiger’s pack with Sam Anderson, Toby Rudolf and Jamil Hopoate the main destroyers. In the backs the elusive Trai Fuller opened the scoring for the Dolphins and managed to cross again before half time for an important double.

The final score of 36-22 didn’t portray the control that Redcliffe had for the 80 minutes in an all-round performance that captured the club’s 6th Queensland Cup title and restored them as kings of the cup!

Club staff were delighted at the success of the “See Red” campaign that saw the home of Queensland football awash with Dolphin supporter’s gear for the clash with the Tigers. Ten busloads of the Dolphin faithful streamed out of the Dolphin Stadium gates and onto busses heading to Milton.
