TIM BATES, VALORI ESPRESSO + GALLERY

Anyone who has walked into Valori Espresso Lounge & Gallery can tell you one thing – you’ll be greeted by the boys with the warmth of a best mate, and leave with a great hot (or cold) drink in hand.

Tim Bates (co-owner of the business) shares his insights to being a successful small business owner in our region.

What drove you to open Valori Espresso Lounge & Gallery?

After working in hospitality for over 10 years, I came to a point where I was working really hard, huge hours for other people and I just thought “I’d much rather work this hard for myself”.

What do you think the most important aspects are to running a successful business?

The most important aspect to running a successful business, especially for the kind of business we run, is to not take yourselves too seriously and to never stop having fun. While it’s crucial to take the running of the business seriously, it can be so easy to lose yourself in all the small stuff and to stop having fun.

What’s the most rewarding thing about working in your industry?

It would really be the appreciation and the sense of worth you receive from all your customers who come in for a product that you’re providing. That, and getting to build lasting, genuine relationships with them.

Why should people look to invest in the Peninsula?

From a hospitality standpoint, I think people should look to investing in the Peninsula for the lifestyle. We have so much space and still so much demand for cafes, restaurants and bars with the most amazing waterfront setting.
