Style trends to look for in 2019

If you’re looking to keep your wardrobe up-to-date, Rachel from Redcliffe Style is the person to turn to!

Rachel lives, works and plays on the Peninsula and knows exactly how to match the new season styles and trends with our beautiful weather and lifestyle.

Here are some of the top trends for 2019 to add to your shopping list, as told by Rachel.

Athleisure (the trend in fashion where clothing designed primarily for working out is worn in other settings) is definitely not going anywhere, and I love it. This is comfortable, cute and practical.

A simple way to mix it in with your current wardrobe is to wear a pair of Converse or white running shoes with a cute dress, a sports tee with a pretty skirt or even Adidas tights with a blazer.

Animal print seems to have a comeback every year and 2019 is no different. One of my favourite ways to add this print to an outfit is with heels. I think I have always had a pair of leopard print heels in rotation in my wardrobe since 1985. I throw them on with a basic black dress or a pair of jeans and know that I am at least 50% hotter than I was before I put them on.

This one is a little tougher. Puffy shoulders have the opposite effect to leopard print, you automatically become 50% less hot, but for the next 3 months, you are 100% more fashionable. If you are still keen to give them a whirl, just keep the rest of your outfit subdued so you don’t look like you’re auditioning for a remake of Working Girl.

Classic Tartan is in for 2019, but make sure it is in eye-catching colours. The brighter the better! This is a great trend for those who like to stand out. I’m not ready to embrace the head to toe look yet but I would love a bright tartan skirt to wear with a shirt to the office and then with a sports tee on the weekend.

I tend not to invest too much in trendy pieces, so I like to look for inexpensive ways to mix a little ‘trend’ in with my normal style. Try to add a touch of the current trends to your classic wardrobe this New Year.
