Driving our community

Peninsula Cricket Club Scores Holden Home Ground Advantage Grant

When he first sent in the application all those months ago, Barry Stevenson never expected the level of support that would come his way. Now thanks to Marlene Newcombe at Village Motors North Lakes and Holden Australia, the Peninsula Cricket Club will receive a $6,500 grant for a new digital scoreboard.

The support is part of the Holden Home Ground Advantage program, an initiative started to help and nurture grassroots sport within local communities around the country.

Peninsula Cricket Club is on the rise

The Peninsula Cricket Club was originally founded by a group of players tired of traveling over the bridge to play grade cricket. Now, 44 years later, the club consists of five winter teams, five summer teams, and provides opportunities for over 250 junior and senior players. The club is also confident of soon fielding a team in the ladies cricket competition.

Peninsula Cricket Club Vice President, Barry Stevenson, says the money will go a long way to helping the Redcliffe Peninsula’s oldest cricket club modernise its facilities.

“With so many amazing local sports clubs around Australia it’s truly amazing that we were one of the lucky ones to receive the Holden Home Ground Advantage grant,” Barry said.

“With the additional funds we’ll be able to finally purchase a digital scoreboard and move the Peninsula Cricket Club into the 21st century.”

An Investment in the Future

Marlene Newcombe, Village Holden Dealer Principal, said supporting grassroots clubs like the Peninsula Cricket Club was why the program was created.

“Local sporting clubs play a very important role within their communities and we are thrilled to help invest in their future,” Marlene said.

The Holden Home Ground Advantage launched in 2014 and has since been helping sports clubs fund projects to improve club facilities, and purchase equipment and uniforms. Sports clubs can apply for grants to share in the whopping $250,000, which is made available every year, during each summer and winter round. Holden recently pledged $5 million over the next 10 years to grassroots sporting clubs.

Village Motors North Lakes supports numerous local sporting clubs including The Lakes FC, Narangba Rangers RLFC and Redcliffe Dolphins. As we head into the events season, families will also be able to enjoy fun activities and score some great prizes at plenty of Village Motors activations at locally supported events including Redcliffe KiteFest and the Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival.
